RONALDO VS RONALDO: WHO WINS?

CASTROL PROVIDES A REVEALING INSIGHT INTO THE PERFORMANCE OF ONE OF THE WORLD’S BEST FOOTBALLERS

FRIDAY 16th APRIL 2010: Today Castrol ambassador and Real Madrid star, Cristiano Ronaldo, came face-to-face with a giant, 9 metre-high, avatar version of himself in a one-off spectacular race in Madrid.

Castrol, the world-leading lubricant company and sponsor of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ laid down the gauntlet to the mercurial Portuguese winger, setting him a unique test of speed, power and agility at ‘Challenge Ronaldo’, an exclusive event in the Spanish capital.

By applying the same expertise that they use to develop their oils, Castrol presented a glimpse into the talent of one of the world’s best footballers to give football fans around the world a deeper insight into what it takes to produce winning performances.

Ronaldo lined up against his giant projection, which was filmed with the football star earlier in the year, to race in a dribble over a 24 metre course.

Twenty lucky fans beat off competition from over 20,000 entrants around the world to also compete against the giant Ronaldo, all trying to beat the star’s time.

Commenting after the race, Ronaldo said: “I’ve competed against some of the best players in the world, but I have never had the chance to challenge myself. There was a lot of pressure to beat my time in front of all the fans. I want to show I am the best of course, so I had to get the fastest time!”

Castrol Senior Vice-President Mike Johnson commented: “Castrol has brought their expertise and passion to football by providing something truly new and engaging for football fans. With the support of world class ambassadors such Cristiano Ronaldo we are able to analyse player performances in a new and exciting way.”
